不過，我們若做一點「歷史研究」，就明白其實紙幣裏的人物一直有如走馬燈。邱吉爾的肖像其實在2016年推出新版5英鎊紙鈔時才出現，並且是取代伊利沙伯‧弗萊（Elizabeth Fry）的。弗萊是著名的女社會改革家，尤其著力於監獄改革。當英倫銀行宣布將由邱吉爾「取代」弗萊登上新版5英鎊紙鈔時，也引發爭議。有女性主義團體甚至威脅依《Equality Act 2010》提出法律行動，要求銀行重新考慮並選擇女性人物。

誰的肖像可出現在鈔票上，或誰比誰重要當然是可討論的。但在英國紙幣界說「自古有之，一直如此，永保江山」...
