De stad #Maaseik in Belgisch Limburg draagt de ruim 1200 jaar oude Codex #Eyckensis voor voor opname in het #UNESCO Memory of the World-register. Het oudste bewaarde #evangelieboek van de Benelux zou ooit door de missionaris #Willibrord geschonken zijn aan de zusters Harlindis en Relindis. Het zeer goed bewaard gebleven boek werd tussen 1571 en enkele jaren geleden bewaard in de Sint-Catharinakerk in Maaseik. De stad Maaseik zet haar erfgoed op de wereldkaart. Het oudste bewaarde evangelieboek van de Benelux, de Codex Eyckensis, wordt voorgedragen voor opname in het UNESCO Memory of the World-register. Het college van burgemeester en schepenen keurde deze week het nominatiedossier goed.

Feast of St #Willibrord (658-739). From Northumbria, he studied from age 20 to 32 in the Abbey of Ráíth/Cluain Melsigi (Clonmelsh in Carlow). There he learned the Dionysian method of calculating Easter #computus from Ecgberht, bringing it in turn to the Franks, along with the BC/AD date system. Irish books on computus followed, as the Franks sought answers to questions already answered in Ireland.
