Ten Minutes With a Tropical Mockingbird

A Tropical Mockingbird doing what it does best—hunting, moving, and ignoring me entirely.

Saltmarsh Shadows

While drifting through the final bends of the saltmarsh aboard the Osprey, I spotted a group of five Boat-tailed Grackles moving low through the reeds near the mouth of Jarvis Sound.

Forster’s Tern Over Cape May Harbour

While scanning the skies above Cape May Harbour, I spotted a slender tern gliding past the boat. At first, I wasn’t sure which species I’d photographed—Caspian, Common, or Forster’s? Back at home, subtle field marks confirmed it was Forster’s Tern in breeding plumage. A life bird. One that taught me to look closer.

Buffleheads in Motion

My first sighting of Bufflehead during a boat tour in Cape May felt like trying to photograph wind over water. They moved fast, flew low, and never stopped.

The Cormorants of Cape May

During a boat tour through the Cape May saltmarsh, I observed Double-crested Cormorants at rest, in flight, and in that transitional space between water and sky.

If you’re looking to add a touch of charm to your backyard, consider a squirrel picnic table!

These mini tables are not only a fun DIY project but also a fantastic way to enjoy watching local wildlife up close. Simply attach the table to a fence or tree, place some nuts or seeds on top, and watch as squirrels come to feast.

This endearing trend originated from the creative mind of Rick Kalinowski.
