Kosken alajuoksulle on tullut talvilomille kaksi karaa ja välillä toinen ajaa toista takaa (tai molemmat toisiaan). Ilmeisesti vähäiseksi käyneet avoimet virta-alueet koskessa tuntuvat liian pieniltä reviireiltä, joten toista hätistellään kauemmaksi. Samaan kuvaan molempia lintuja tuntuu olevan vaikea saada. Öttiäisruokaa tuntuu hyvin löytyvän molemmille.

Two dippers have migrated to the lower reaches of the rapids for the winter season, and sometimes one chases the other (or both of them). Apparently the open areas of the rapids, which have become less frequent, seem like too small territories, so one is being chased further away. So it's difficult to get both birds in the same picture. It seems that there is plenty of bug food for both of them.

Koskikarat tulevat pohjoisesta (enimmäkseen Ruotsista ja Norjasta) talvehtimaan tänne etelään. Linnut muuttavat alkukeväästä takaisin, eikä niitä silloin täällä näy. On mukava seurata niiden puuhastelua ja kuunnella kaunista laulua, jota ei tahdo kuulua veden äänien yli.

White-throated dippers come from the north (mostly from Sweden and Norway) to winter here in the southern Finland. The birds migrate back in early spring, and they are not seen here then. It's nice to watch them do their things and listen to a beautiful song that you almost can't hear over the sounds of the water.

"Good morning, mister Blackbird. I'm looking for the king and queen of this forest. I trust that the calls of your friends will lead me to them." They did, but the queen was nowhere to be seen – the king was present. After all these years with the goshawks of Helsinki, my heart still skips a beat when I spot one.

I left the forest to see if there was anything else interesting to photograph. The weather was... Well, you see the photos. At least I saw a bit of sunlight for a brief moment. There is little snow left: January was warmer than usual, and February is off to a poor start. But hey, snowberries still look pretty. Speaking of white... While I was walking home, I spotted something moving in the brook next to me: a white-throated dipper at long last.
