OK, it’s time to play...
WHAT’S IN THE BOX, europlus?! 📦
And what’s in the box is...
A box! 📦
And, of course there’s no use having a portable if you don’t take it places – Sláinte!
This is going to be my tinkering machine when I’m away from #WOzFest HQ between WOzFests. Between it and my (yet to have repairs finished) IIc, I’ll have an easier time playing to Apple ][ stuff in my cramped one-bedroom unit, including wanting to get back into playing with the FujiNet.
I’ll post a separate thread some time soon about some of my experimentation with the machine in general, as well as a few different types of interface cards in Slot 5.
By the way, I wasn’t gentle enough with the power supply and broke a blade off! Probably for the best. Have a PSU which will charge the battery, and I’ll pick up a replacement 12V 3.5+A one tomorrow.
That’s it for tonight – thanks for playing…

A few loose ends – there _is_ a RESET button/key - pressing Fn-R or the RESET button does the usual CTRL-RESET.
They ran a test print from the built-in printer interface and included it with the manual, which I also show the front page of (it’s downloadable from the site I linked to earlier).
Some glamour shots – this thing is packed with ports because it’s packed with virtual cards in almost all the slots, although Slot 5 is available…externally!
It *is* a Book – a BOOK ][ Plus, in fact – a portable Apple ][+ clone, which has a battery! And it’s quite a chonky boi!
The plastic/foam wrapped items are a power supply and a joystick. Will have to do my semi-regular unofficial PSU conversion for the local outlets, as least it can handle 240V – and I wasn’t expecting the joystick! Bonus! 🕹️ 🔌
The gap above the keyboard is for an internal floppy emulator (not included/sold separately).
See https://8086cpu.com/Z80/6502/110.html for some further info.
From that site:
The BOOK II is a portable Apple II (Plus) compatible computer, redesigned using standard TTL chips and equipped with ROMs from early Apple II compatibles or clones. Beyond its core Apple II functionality, it integrates several built-in enhancements: an 80-column video card, a 16KB Language Card, a Z80 Softcard, a printer controller, and a Disk II compatible controller.
As a portable computer, the BOOK II features a built-in lithium battery, an RGB LCD, and a low-profile mechanical keyboard. It supports original Apple Disk II floppy drives as well as floppy drive emulators.
Features
CPU: 6502
SRAM: 48KB (+16KB)
Z80 Softcard
80 Column Video Card
16KB Language Card RAM

Oh, I think it’s some sort of book!
I’ll put those items aside for now, as I think there’s a hidden compartment below a false foam floor of the box, but before I removed the false bottom, under those items I found a manual – I will have to maintain the mystery (such as it may be) just a little longer...
Oh, wait, no, it’s not a box of cardboard all the way from China – that’s a different package.
This is a delivery of some foam and foam/plastic wrapped items...
So, what’s in the box in the box?
It’s cardboard! All the way from China!
Here’s the box out of the box, but what’s that thing I didn’t notice earlier...?
OMD! It looks like someone tried to snipe my box!
I hope the valuable stuff inside is OK – but what *is* that valuable stuff...?
