Another relatively simple thing you can do is get involved with a community garden. Some have private plots for individuals, some are plots where gardening enthusiasts let anyone harvest & only ask for a donation. But they help you and your community be less reliant on grocery stores for produce.

One not too difficult thing people can do to prepare for the upcoming administration is to get a Costco membership. You can get a 20lb bag of rice for about $22 dollars, 2 gallons of milk for less than $10, tp galore, dog food, Kirkland (Costco's brand) meat that THEY test, not the soon to be undone FDA, eggs are super cheap, bread at half off & more. When the shit hit the fan last time, Costco was what got my family through it.
