A big thank you to all who visited us at the #WestportLibrary for the #eclipse yesterday. The #WASAwayTeam had a great time showing off the partial eclipse to the hundreds who came to observe with the #WestportAstronomicalSociety.
WHAT A DAY IT WAS! We're just starting to work on the magnificent photos our amazing astrophotographers grabbed from the #GreatAmericanEclipse. Thanks to everyone who joined us all over the country inside and outside of #totality. It was awesome to see so many come out to observe at the #WestportLibrary, our #NASA balloon launch in Texas, the #StarParty in #Maine, #Vermont, and #NewYork to name just a few! We'll keep posting the images as they come in, but we'll start with #WAS president Shannon Calvert's #eclipse efforts from Guilford Maine.

Less than 24 hours until the Great American #Eclipse! The Westport Journal has a great article on the #WestportAstronomicalSociety setup at the #WestportLibrary on April 8th from 2-4 pm. We'll see a few clouds in #WestportCT tomorrow but it should be a great view for the 90% partial eclipse, similar to the attached image from 2012.

Sky-high outlook for Monday’s solar eclipse | Westport Journal

Westport: Town’s schools, Westport Astronomical Society prepare opportunities to safely view a rare solar eclipse Monday.

Westport Journal

The #WASAwayTeam is spreading out to see the #eclipse! The Westport Astronomical Society members are flying high-altitude balloons into totality with a grant from #NASA, another is flying his private plane down the path of #totality, and others are headed to Maine, New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire as clouds in Texas forced many to change their plans. We hope you can find your slice of totality but if not, please join some of our members at the #WestportLibrary on April 8, from 2-4!

Great American Eclipse

A total solar eclipse is coming to America on April 8, 2024. Find maps, videos, how to view, best places to go, eclipse glasses, and more.

Great American Eclipse

ONE MONTH UNTIL THE SOLAR ECLIPSE: Mark your calendar. On April 8, 2024, the #Moon will pass directly in front of the sun for a total #solar #eclipse. More than 31 million people live inside the path of totality, which cuts across 13 US states. Millions more will travel to see the sun's ghostly corona--a life-changing sight for many who witness it. In CT we won't see any totality and will only have about +/- 90% of the sun obscured. However, if you can't travel to totality, we hope you'll join the #WASAwayTeam at the #WestportLibrary where we'll have all sorts of cool stuff to safely see the partial eclipse!

SOLAR ECLIPSE COMET: A #comet is approaching the sun for a rare appearance during this April's total #solar #eclipse. Cryovolcanic comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is expected to be at least faintly visible inside the #Moon's shadow with a more dramatic display possible if one of its ice geysers erupts at the right moment. https://Spaceweather.com has maps and a gorgeous image of the comet.

You must be in totality - and that's a line that runs from Mexico, diagonally through the US and out through Newfoundland. Here in CT the Moon will only eclipse the sun around 90% and the #WASAwayTeam will be observing from the #WestportLibrary.
