Eagles Surprise Saints to Win First Game of 2025 | AFANA

The West Coast Eagles won their first game of the year at the expense of the St Kilda Saints who could not cope with the heat the Eagles brought to the contested ball. The Saints, under coach Ross Lyon, have built a name as a team that prides itself on winning the ball in tight situations. Today they were exposed by the West Coast Eagles who played the same game style. The Saints typically close the ball down in contests and when they win it, spread fast across the field to launch attacks with lightning pace.

Selwood family devastated again after death of Adam Selwood, aged 41

The heartbreaking news has come just months after the AFL world was rocked by the death of Troy Selwood.

7NEWS

Devastating news to hear that Adam Selwood has passed away. For those who don't know, Adam was the twin brother of Troy Selwood, who passed away only months ago, and the older brother of Joel and Scott. Adam was a premiership player in 2006 at West Coast. My thoughts are with the entire Selwood family, their friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.

Gawn's Demons Down Desperate Eagles | AFANA

The Melbourne Demons led by Max Gawn overcame the desperate West Coast Eagles to post their third consecutive win of the season. It was a match of fifteenth versus eighteenth and for much of the game it reflected their respective positions on the premiership ladder. The Eagles were desperate and lacked skills and the Demons had players with skill but lacked desperation. The shining light for the Demons was their skipper Max Gawn, who dominated in the ruck with 47 hitouts and nine clearances while covering ground like a midfielder and picking up 35 possessions. Gawn was supported by Christian Petracca who was back to his damaging best at stoppages and provided midfield grunt when the Demons got serious after half time. Petracca made an early symbolic statement when he intercepted a Harley Reid handpass and booted the Demons' first goal after less than two minutes play.

Hawks Fail to Make Most of Percentage Booster Against Eagles | AFANA

On paper today's match looked like it should be one sided, with the Hawks strong favorites to win. Hawthorn captain James Sicily started the day well for his team when he won the toss and kicked to the southern end. Under the roof at Marvel Stadium a crowd of 26,425 and dominated by Hawthorn faithful, came to see the Hawks steady the ship against the West Coast Eagles after two consecutive losses to Port Adelaide and Geelong. The Hawks struggled to find a goal early with both Blake Hardwick and Nick Watson missing set shots, bad kicking would plague the Hawks for most of the day. It was almost halfway through the quarter when Jack Gunston, on a long lead, marked and kicked a goal from 45 meters out. Jack Ginnivan (back from a game in the VFL last week) kicked the second on the run after Gunston flicked a quick hand pass out to him, and he was able to snap the goal with little West Coast resistance.
