You'll be able to write in to Britannica. (-:

It has a lengthier article than my printed encyclopaedias and is definite about London being the place.

I've done a bit of amateur searching out of curiosity and the work with the best footnotes seems to source the death in London to ASC E.

Another one pointed to the chronicle of Thietmar of Merseburg, so I had a look for an English translation of that. Fortunately I found a snippet translation of the initial part of chapter 40. Unfortunately, it isn't specific about Æthelred being in London, only that xyr wife and sons were.

Interesting. It seems unlikely that they weren't where Æthelred was, though.

Ethelred the Unready | Viking invasions, Wessex, Mercia | Britannica

Ethelred the Unready was the king of the English from 978 to 1013 and from 1014 to 1016. He was an ineffectual ruler who failed to prevent the Danes from overrunning England. The epithet “unready” is derived from unraed, meaning “bad counsel” or “no counsel,” and puns on his name, which means

I don't have totally up to date reference books. Has 21st century scholarship cast doubt upon where Æthelred the Unready died?

My most thumbed books for this (that are detailed enough to give a location) are secondhand and were published in 1969, and I think that the reassessment of the reign was after that. They're unequivocal about London being the place.

On this day in 871, Alfred the Great became King of Wessex with his wife, Elswitha, by his side. They would undergo many upheavals, the lowest point being their wandering through the Somerset Levels when she was in her mid- to late twenties.

In the Court of the Crimson King (subtitled An Observation by King Crimson) is the debut studio album by English progressive rock band King Crimson, released on 10 October 1969, by Island Records. An early and influential example in the history of progressive rock, it combined rock music influences with elements of jazz, classical, and symphonic music. It is still today a masterpiece of music!
It was King Crimson's most commercially successful album, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest progressive rock albums of all time.

It may have been a *little* damp yesterday, but a crowd did turn out for the 2025 wassail, with music and entertainment from Swindon Folk Club and Devizes Jubilee Morris.

What a lovely ceremony - songs, dance, and waking up the apple trees with apple juice and toast! Museum director Mike confirmed we had a lovely harvest last year; let's hope it's the same in 2025.
