🧬 Just letting you know that the group where I'm PhD-ing, EVO•COM from the University of Bologna (Italy), has TWO NEW #genomes on their way 💥

A huge thank goes to @erga_biodiv and Biodiversity Genomics Europe (BGE) which have granted these sequencing projects!

🦗🦗 Two #Polyneoptera #insects are reaching the heaven of sequenced species: the #webspinner Embia tyrrhenica and the European dwarf #mantis Ameles spallanzania.

I'm looking forward to see what these critter genomes will tell us!

The thing that interested me most about this female #webspinner (other than the mystery of how it got onto a bookshelf in our house) was its ability to run backwards in a straight line just as fast as it ran forwards, presumably a trait optimised for its life in silk tunnels.

Surprised to find a #webspinner (#Embioptera) in the house tonight (female so not identifiable even to family ☹️). I think this is the 20th insect order I've recorded on the property. I guess I'd better seek out some fleas. #Entomology

Got the #Christmas decorations out. #Webspinner and #terrypratchett #discworld baubles, strange #Victorian Christmas card (#cricket riding a #moth?), Santula the Christmas #bat (for the top of the tree) and a 'seasonal' tune from #Motorhead #AceOfSpades
