@jbz fwiw... i still use & love it. i disable or otherwise just don't use its #AI bullshit baggage. i enjoy using its new long-awaited #SplitTabs feature. i use the brilliant #FirefoxSecondSidebar project, giving me a #WebPanel second-sidebar more powerful & flexible than any of #Floorp, #Zen [before they removed it], & Vivaldi. i use the magnificent #TreeStyleTab AO for exquisite infinitely-nestable hierarchical tabs that blows FF's native vertical tabs, chromium's, Floorp's, Vivaldi's outta da water. I use the also magnificent #SimpleTabGroups AO to give me excellent #Workspaces capability. my #uBlockOrigin is in Advanced Hard Mode, & the many tens of thousands of dynamic filter rules i've cumulatively created over the years helps make day to day browsing simply lovely. I use custom #userChrome.css, #userContent.css, & user.js files to tailor my Nightly's UX & UI "just so".

every day for many many months now i read so many posts from peeps [rightly] complaining about "what the fuck is mozilla doing to us with this ai garbage?", but who then solicit or advocate jumping to another
#Gecko variant, or [& these ones really make me roll my eyes] say they're now going to chrome coz why not... ffs.

for years i have actively also used / tested all the browsers named above [except chrome, never that pig-swill, but chromium yes], & also
#librewolf, #waterfox, #tor ... & in all cases i find various UX & UI aspects that frustrate me so much that sooner or later i always return to my bespoke #FirefoxNightly .

for those willing & indeed interested in bothering, afaict we foxxers can still have our cake & eat it.

fwiw.

While it is very convenient to have YouTube Music in the web panel in @Vivaldi, YouTube's design team made a serious mistake in the design of the mobile view. A volume control is missing. 🤦‍♂️ Really very annoying. I wish there was an integrated multimedia control in Vivaldi similar to Chrome.

@Lane @Tutanota
#VivaldiBrowser not only that it doesn't force #AI on you, but also doesn't even have it!
For some, this might be a pro, while for others, a con. It is rather a con for me, but I can easily resolve it by using #WebPanel. It is like having a built-in #AIAssistant, just that it doesn't have access to the page I am viewing.

I'm ready to watch two soccer games at the same time. You don't miss anything with @Vivaldi.

@utopiarte T/y. I use a desktop browser [#Floorp, an excellent #Firefox #ESR fork] & in the absence of a more elegant option, have been copying target posts to clipboard, then pasting into my Floorp #WebPanel of about:translations. This though is clunky & "high friction" such that i often lazily instead opt to skip right over non-English posts in my timeline.

Given there's apparently nothing server-side to help here, prolly i shall reinstall the FF #AddOn addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firef… which i uninstalled comparatively long ago once FF's native local translation tool came along. The AO has one advantage over the native tool though, it includes a context-menu option to translate selected text. I didn't need that any more back in Masto, but it seems now here in #Friendica, i need it again.

@gregandcin

ESR is already a notch down for me

And also me, btw. This fact almost stopped me even bothering to try it. Fyi, i run #Arch, & my long-term default browser before #Floorp was , before that was , ie, i like "new", i don't like "stale". Ofc i'd love the  Dev to rebase onto [at least] vanilla , or better yet #FirefoxBeta [i know that using #FirefoxNightly as base could never occur ofc].

However, all that said, once i began testing  & kept discovering all its gems, it entranced me. Though nowadays i use & enjoy numerous of its extras [compared to any of the parent Foxes], i can say without any hesitation that THE stand-out feature of it, its Vivaldiesque #WebPanel #SidePanel, was what made me realise i simply had to adopt this great browser as my new default.

A bonus is its more recent advent of split tab view, akin to Vivaldi's tab panes of two tabs side by side. Vivaldi's paning is much more complete than Floorp's atm, but the most common pane option i used in Vivaldi was two tabs side by side, which now Floorp has, so i'm not missing out on anything important to me.

I must also mention the ongoing fundamental advantage of Floorp over Vivaldi; by being based on #Gecko not #chromium, i am entirely free of all the google bullshit, not least that my #uBlockOrigin is not going to break in a few months once google complete their odious #Mv3 deployment by removing #Mv2.

@hishgraphics Had not heard of this til your toot, ta. Otoh, tbh, having now read the minimal info at that link, i'm not interested. With my #uBlockOrigin set in Advanced mode, my custom #userJS, & the other native attributes, i remain happy with the privacy capability of my  However, building upon this base, these days i am also interested in forks that enhance the FF UI, to deliver a better UX.

That was why, a few weeks ago, i began testing #PulseBrowser & #Floorp. The latter is simply amazingly good [despite still comparatively early development], & so it became my new default browser, in lieu of #FirefoxNightly . There's so much UI goodies to commend it [it's rather like the "Vivaldi of Gecko-land"], not only but including native #Workspaces, #VerticalTabs, #WebPanel, BookmarkBar at top or bottom, BookmarkBar AutoHide when at top...

I doubt that #Mercury is / can be more private than my Floorp [or also  ], & even if it happens to be a bit faster, i prioritise that slightly less highly than enhanced UI productivity.

When i said...

>On the negative side though, to be quite fair, i have been experiencing a little instability during some browser restarts

...this pic shows what i mean. Very often upon launching or restarting #Floorp [a single window], **multiple** windows arise, only one of which is my "real" one, with all the others being one or other single tabs from recent history. This IS really annoying me... & tbh has made me feel several times like giving up. However, i would really miss the incredible utility of its Vivaldi-esque #WebPanel, so that's keeping me here with it... so far.

EDIT-1:
I decided to delete ALL Browsing History, Cache, & Offline Site Data... my logic being maybe something in here became corrupted & was repeatedly triggering this silly launch misbehaviour. After a subsequent couple of new relaunches, so far so good. Ofc the acid test will be what occurs later... 🤞

EDIT-2:
Nope, within ~hour it was back to its irritating trick of launching multiple windows. However, i ***might*** have begun finally to identify a pattern here. Afaict, the times when launches spawn multi-windows, after closing the preceding session with a single-window, seem to coincide with sessions when i had added one or more new sites to the #WebPanel. It's beginning to look like sessions when i'd not done that, aren't followed by the next session going bananas. Tbc...

EDIT-3:
Nope, another hypothesis bites the dust. The damn thing just spawned one dummy window, along with the "right" one, after a restart just now, with the previous session definitely not involving adding any new WPs. Damnit.
