Here's another ancient picture from when I studied Baya Weavers for my MSc back in 2012. This male was being quite indecisive about which blade of grass he wanted to pick for his nest. He kept hovering in this spot for close to a minute, allowing me to get a volley of shots off.

Forgive the massive oversatruration - I definitely went overboard with it back then.

An ancient picture from when I studied Baya Weavers for my MSc. During mating season, males build nests & flocks of females visit colonies to select mates based on the quality of their nests. This nest was already taken by a female and I happened to get a nice in-flight shot of the male as he was approaching.

Shooting with the fully manual 400mm with no AF or VR is crazy difficult.

The Sociable weaver (Philetairus socius) is a species of bird in the weaver family found across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. This species construct large compound community nests that resemble huts, complete with a sloping thatched-grass roof that sheds rain. These nests are the world’s largest and most populated tree houses, with some weighing up to a ton or more and measuring up to 20 feet wide and 10 feet tall.
