A fantastic event on the evening of August 16th, Homegrown: An Evening of Detroit Jazz and Poetry. This great program is to raise money for annual Crockett-Lumumba scholarships and study abroad experience in the African Diaspora. All money raised will go directly to students.

The event features globally acclaimed jazz bassist and bandleader, Marion Hayden; Michigan's poet laureate, Melba Joyce Boyd; and Allen Dennard, who is a trumpet player, bandleader, activist and composer, as well as Tariq Gardner on the drums, who also happens to be Marion's son.
