Outgoing today on @postcrossing ... she said she's into art and the paranormal. So: "Wayland's Smithy", by Anna Dillon. Supposedly, if you leave your horse and a coin outside the smithy overnight, the god will shoe it for you. A cunning ruse, making up a story like that when no-one has horses anymore to test it. Perhaps I should see if the god has kept up with the times and will change the tyres on a bicycle for me.

The restored entrance to Wayland’s Smithy in Oxfordshire - a Neolithic chambered long barrow close to the Uffington White Horse. The barrow was built over an earlier burial structure which held the remains of at least 14 individuals. 📸 My own. #TombTuesday #WaylandsSmithy

I’m making great progress on my latest #painting: a hand painted #map of the main #megalithic sites in #Oxfordshire.

I have literally no idea why I didn’t paint this yeeeears ago.

At last! I have a fresh new #painting to show you: #WaylandsSmithy #LongBarrow. My first painting for 4 months & my first of 2026.

I've returned to a theme which I first explored with my paintbrushes (and muddy boots) 25+ years ago; ancient monuments, #standingstones & our #Neolithic past.
