A lost art: crate labels for fruit & veg companies

You've gotta stand out somehow, so these brands each tried something different from the usual scenes of sunlit lemon groves. All are from California in the early 1940s, most likely before US entry into World War II, except for Buckingham which is from the 1920s.

@cvvhrn That first picture is a piece of ground I did some research into. A very long time ago there was a trolley line from #Watsonville to the shore. It went right next to that straight road you can see here. And just before it got to the ocean it veered off to the north (right). You can still see a curving road where it went (almost all the way to the water in this picture).

GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON: WATSONV...
GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON: WATSONVILLE · Mobilize

Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people. On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble. From voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protest, the Trump administration is launching a full-scale attack on our civil and human rights. But we know the truth: in America, the power lies with the people, and we’re rising to prove it. This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom. **Please note:** A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

I collect old postcards with pictures of trolleys. This one was tempting, but the asking price of $129 (!) is a bit steep for an old postcard. Nothing to stop me from grabbing the scan off of eBay and sharing it with you guys though.

This shows tracks of the Watsonville Transportation company at Port Watsonville, CA (there is a still a place by that name, but it seems to have migrated a few miles north along the beach). There's a Wikipedia page with a map of the exact spot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watsonville_Traction_Company

The WTC was an electric railway that ran from Watsonville to the ocean. It's main function was to get agricultural products onto boats, but they also ran excursions to the beach, where there was a dance hall.

I have a webpage showing postcards that I *do* own here: http://trainweb.org/trolleypostcards/

That's some authentic 1990's handcoded html there, too. It started out on #geocities
