Ford strips protections from Wasaga Beach to sell for development
Wasaga Beach is not the only public land under pressure. The Ford government has previously introduced numerous legislative changes to fast-track resource development and allow the transfer of environmentally protected public land to private interests, including the Greenbelt land swap, the Ontario Place redevelopment and the proposed Dresden landfill.
Ford strips protections from Wasaga Beach to sell for development
Under its controversial omnibus Bill 68, more than one per cent of the park — with some estimates suggesting up to 60 per cent — has been removed from protection. Wasaga Beach is the province’s most visited provincial park, with the largest freshwater beach in the world.
