Long days in the lab...

I have spent the last 2 days processing shallow snow and firn cores in the lab, this is the last one (for now). Really nice datasets coming out, but a lot of concentration required.

At least I have a great view (when I remember to look up).

It's a beautiful day after the storm, spent a morning in the lab preparing samples for oxygen isotopes, but we're going out later for more coring and sampling. Here are WP9 including @[email protected] heading out for a few days overnight on the shelf.

The small cabins give a useful sense of scale in the huge landscape.

Today we were getting fresh water, from the blue ice area near Wasa station. Stunningly beautiful and many microscale processes to puzzle over.

Getting excited for the winter field season, which this year means heading South instead of North. And what better use of a wet Sunday afternoon than to go through recently arrived fieldkit from the Swedish Polar secratariet to check it all fits and to see what I additions I need?

Antarctic fieldwork starts in December and our aim is to assess snow fall variability in the sector of Dronning Maud Land near the Wasa station. .
