Please don't call the cops on homeless folks, who you may see/run into at some parks, if they're not bothering anyone at all & are trying to keep to themselves. I've met several different homeless folks all around this large urban park & never felt scared around them. I sometimes bring them free foods & first aid supplies.

We desperately need more social & transitional supportive housing in #VictoriaBC. All municipalities should be working on this - together. This is a shared social responsibility & it crosses every municipal border. Demonizing, dehumanizing & criminalizing homeless folks hasn't helped at all - it is also very unkind & lacking of humanity.

Good shit from Héctor Tobar's challenging book of essays, Our Migrant Souls:

"In their everyday lives, United States citizens can suffer through a kind of undocumented status.... Bad credit scores can deny them housing or a car loan; unpaid bills can land them in bankruptcy proceedings and in Dickensian debt courts, where a judge can send them to jail. Your lack of health insurance can be a fatal form of undocumentation. Identity theft can make you, in effect, undocumented. And the bad documentation of a past arrest, or prison term, or even unpaid parking tickets, can deny you a job, or the safety of a rented home.

"It's no accident that the immigration-enforcement spectacle has taken on ever-greater ferocity the more that Americans, and especially white Americans, feel small before the power of data-driven consumer capitalism."

Trump’s War on Children: DOGE Guts Head Start, Child Abuse Programs, Healthcare & More

Cuts by the Trump administration are putting children at risk, according to a new report by ProPublica. The administration has cut funds and manpower for child abuse investigations, enforcement of child support payments, child care and more. On top of that, Head Start preschools, which offer free child care to low-income parents, are being severely gutted. Democracy Now! speaks with ProPublica reporter Eli Hager on his investigation into Trump’s “War on Children.” “It wasn’t just cuts to these more liberal-coded programs like support for child care and direct assistance to lower-income families with children, but also these programs that have much more support across the political spectrum, like funds and staffing for investigating child abuse and Child Protective Services,” says Hager.
