Donald RoyThere appears to have been a sting in the tail of the decision last year to cap 'right to buy' discounts in #england at £ 16,000 per property. There was a rush of applications to buy before this came in. These when processed will have a discount of more than £ 100,000 per property. In #wandsworth alone this seems likely to amount to £ 20 - 30 million - scale up to #england we talking at least a billion pounds sterling. And in addition the stock of #publichousing will be reduced!
As a #wandsworth resident I feel this acutely because the new #conservative led administration is already reducing #socialhousing investment and thus replacement of losses to 'right to buy' . This puts at risk the hard earned and proud reputation of #wandsworth as a #londonborough which does not send homeless people out of #london.

#barnet has a minority #labour administration enabled by the #conservatives because neither party wishes to be dependent on the one #green councillor - who has been ostracised. #enfield has a minority #conservative administration enabled by the #greens . #lambeth has a minority #green administration enabled by the #liberaldemocrats while #wandsworth has a #conservative administration based on an agreement with the sole independent councillor.
@iinavpov Is that so? It does not seem to be the case with other adaptations to listed buildings - arguably less crucial ones. Near where I live #wandsworth council has been going through the process of adapting and repairing some brutalist blocks in #roehampton that have listed status. The process has been costly, difficult and slow - but clearly not impossible by any means!
Add to that the status of #wandsworth as one of a handful of councils that have been effectively directed by central government to increase council tax by far more than the normal maximum in 2027/8 and 2028/9 and things may become very interesting indeed locally!
However this is unlikely to be a particularly stable situation since there are likely to be byelections for council seats in #wandsworth over the next four years. There are usually three or four of them. Furthermore only just over half of the councillors (thirty out of fifty eight) represent wards where was neither a split result nor an ultra marginal one. So the chances of a seat changing hands some time before 2030 are significant - and this could mean a change in control.
Reports locally suggest that the independent councillor has made a deal with #conservatives - something which will need to be confirmed at the first meeting of new council -scheduled for Wednesday 27th May. If so 'no overall control' would become 'effective #conservative control' in #wandsworth .
