The European think-tank interviewer had a shocking lack of understanding of CCP-era PRC/China or Chinese history though and simply lapped up the exceptionalist lore like it's meant to — without any questioning.

Yeah, should've thought about "fragmentation" *before* creating those threats through boundless entanglement and dependencies on your despot buddies.

“Biding time, hiding strength” and “selling capitalists the rope with which to hang them” clearly never rang any bells.

@ViolaB Ich glaube nicht einmal, dass sie sich leiden können. Das ist wohl eher so eine "Meines Feindes Feind"-Geschichte.

Aber man stelle sich mal vor, China wäre nicht ebenfalls wirschtaftlich abhängig vom Westen. Das ist doch das einzige, was sie zurückhält.

Nur falls mal wieder jemand sagt, Unabhängigkeit wäre per se gut und #WandelDurchHandel würde nicht funktionieren. Das rettet uns derzeit mutmaßlich den Kopf.
