LEVEL 2 – BE SET - EVACUATION NOTICES

Walla Walla, WA – The Vansycle Canyon fire in Walla Walla County has prompted Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation notices on Highway 12 at 10:15 A.M.

According to Emergency Management officials, Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation notices have been issued for places between mile markers 307-314 on Highway 12, in the Wallula Junction to Nine Mile Hill areas.

Citizens are requested not to call 911 unless a serious situation or life-threatening emergency exists. Walla Walla County ECC will provide updated information to our Facebook account (www.facebook.com/wallawallaem) and our webpage (www.wwemd.info) as it becomes available. Information updates are being passed to the media as quickly as possible.

Evacuations: Level 2 South of Hwy 12 from Wallula Junction to Hindman Rd, Level 1 North of Hwy 12 for the area around Cameo Heights and Green Vally RV Park are in place.

At approximately 12:15 AM, Walla Walla County Fire District 6 was dispatched to a grass fire. The fire was located on Hatch Grade by the wind mills and quickly went to a 4th alarm, with multiple mutual-aid departments arriving to assist with the fire.

A State Mobilization request was submitted around 8 AM. Three strike teams and air resources have been requested.

At 8:30 AM the fire was estimated to be 2,500 acres and growing, with 30-40 mile per hour winds pushing from the Southwest.

From NBC Tri-Cities Yakima: Wildfire burning 2,500 acres in Walla Walla County, evacuation orders in place

“…Reiswig says the fire is now 2,500 acres in size. Level 1 (BE READY) and level 2 (BE SET) evacuation notices are now in place.

Resources are on scene of a vegetation fire that is estimated to be 2-3 miles by 2-3 miles at initial size up moving north northwest per Incident Command. Second and third alarm has been requested.
