Just heard SB 691 (Wiener), which calls for automatic speed warnings in cars (an alarm at 10mph over speed limit) passed out of committee and is heading to the full Assembly for a vote. Yay!
Thanks to #WalkSF and #FamiliesForSafeStreets for their organizing & advocacy
One of the advantages of walking is you'll always see new views, even on routes you've walked many times . Never noticed this alignment before, but there wasn't any distracting traffic this morning.

It is super annoying that cities take care of streets for cars — and even for bikes — but leave pedestrian infrastructure in the hands of private property-owners, who may or may not have the money or contracting skill to maintain them. Even when we do, it's very expensive and often requires long waiting times. In the meantime we're responsible if people slip and fall. This is an anti-pedestrian policy. “Why the heck are homeowners responsible for fixing sidewalks? This would be way cheaper if the city just dealt with it and could negotiate a bulk discount on the work.”
