qwant news | El proyecto de ley de Titus combatiría la ola de delitos en el comercio minorista

Federal Representative Dina Titus, a Nevada Democrat, was inspired to introduce the Retail Crime Organized Crime Act after witnessing a shoplifting spree at a Las Vegas Walgreens, where a man stole an entire stock of false‑eyelash extensions and fled. The bill would broaden federal jurisdiction over retail‑theft‑related offenses, allowing prosecutors to bring charges based on the total value of goods stolen over a twelve‑month period and covering interstate transportation, sale, receipt, or theft of stolen shipments. It also expands anti‑money‑laundering statutes to include prepaid general‑use cards, gift certificates, and store‑gift cards, and would create a dedicated hub within the Department of Homeland Security to coordinate federal law‑enforcement efforts against organized retail crime.

Nevada, home to a massive logistics network, is especially vulnerable: Las Vegas ranks sixth among U.S. cities for retail‑crime losses, with Nevada businesses suffering more than $466 million in 2021. The state’s freight system moved roughly 150 million tons of cargo worth $164 billion in 2022, and recent raids on rail lines in the Mojave desert have resulted in thefts of Nike sneakers, Apple products, and AMD chips totaling several million dollars. The legislation, co‑sponsored in the Senate by fellow Nevada Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto, seeks to protect the state’s role as a national logistics hub and send a clear message that organized thieves will no longer be allowed to undermine supply chains or inflate everyday prices.

The bill’s relevance is underscored by small‑business owners like Juanny Romero of Mothership Coffee Roasters, which operates seven cafés in Las Vegas. While her shipments have not been directly targeted, Romero reports a rise in “friendly fraud” and faces steep cost pressures: tourism has dropped 40 %, coffee import costs have surged 160 % at one point, and tariffs—though later lifted—have created lingering uncertainty. By backing Titus’s legislation, local entrepreneurs hope for a robust, nationwide solution that goes beyond patchwork local measures, safeguarding both Nevada’s economy and consumers across the United States.

The backup pair I mention here is now gone, days/ weeks later. They were brown with black arms. I went back to the store, the restaurant, but couldn't find them. Now I'm on to the round backup pairs, which I decided I didn't like. Time to find a street fair, replenish my annual supply!

Eye drops sold at Walgreens, CVS recalled over safety concerns, FDA says

A pharmaceutical company has issued a voluntary recall of over 3 million of its over-the-counter eye-drop products after the Food and Drug Administration cited a “lack of assurance of sterility.” According to the FDA notice, K.C. Pharmaceuticals, of Pomona, California, manufactures the products for a number of brands sold under names such as “Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops,” “Sterile Eye Drops” and “Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops.” The recall of 3,111,072 bottles […]

Not the biggest #accessibility issue, but it is inconsiderate that the automated pharmacy system at #Walgreens insists on entering the date of birth for updates on my dog's medicine, when she was found as a stray and is unable to tell us exactly when she was born.

So now Walgreen's just keeps cancelling the Rx that OptumRx won't cover. Motherfuckers, I am trying to get you to try to put through whatever this scammy co-pay card is. ALSO, you text me/email me/call me about every goddamned thing, but twice now, you have just silently canceled this order.

For those in the US who get prescriptions from #Walgreens... I noticed last week they no longer use paper bags but have moved to clear plastic bags. I'm not sure why they would do this unless plastic is cheaper than paper?
