Finished watching Wakaba Girl, and it was exactly what I was hoping for, which is yet another fun and laid back CGDCT series. This time, it's about an ojou-sama - not the 'ohoho!' kind; she's more of an airhead - who goes to a public high school and tries to fit in with her new middle class friends. It's a lot cuter than it sounds, watching Wakaba try to navigate the world of normal folk in her quest to become a gyaru.

I also finished Gunbuster, and that final episode was definitely not what I was expecting! But Hideaki Anno firmly establishes his brand with his first series, so it definitely works in that respect.

2015 saw yet another CGDCT added to Murakawa's resume when she played Nao in #wakabagirl. One of the main quartet, Nao often served as the voice of reason, unless her worries about her femineity or her rotten interests knocked her off balance. Playing in a deeper range than normally expected, Murakawa still seemed to have a good time voicing her.

For the last day of the #wakabarewatch, we're covering Episode 13, "Regular Girl", along with the OVA Episode 14, "I'd Like to Relax in an Onsen."

The last TV episode is a nice way to close off the series, with enough "drama" to give us some heft for the goodbye but not dramatic enough that it feels out of texture. The OVA episode is a bit of a cheat, because an onsen episode itself would've been lots of fine, but what we got was alright.

We start this edition in 2015, with a role I've become quickly familiar with, that being... Mao from #wakabagirl. The bubbly, slightly narcissistic extrovert of the group, Mao always does her best to keep the mood of the group up, even if she has to drag everyone else along her. This kind of role is something that MAO, the seiyuu, has become known for: the social girl who might seem disinterested but is a good person all the way.

For today in the #wakabarewatch we're covering Episodes 11 and 12, "A Machine for Generating Lazy People" and "Stop With Those Eyes." While there's some nice serious moments as we get towards the end of the show, the main thing on my mind is that I wish it was winter already.

So today for the #wakabarewatch we're covering Episodes 9 and 10, "Wakaba-chan Fever" and "It's Impossible" and the only thing I have to say today is I'm wondering how I ever gave this a seven.

Hello #animedon and for today's #wakabarewatch, we're looking at Episodes 7 and 8, "A Sniper, By Any Chance?" and "Bang-Bang-Bang".

Both of these episodes are pretty standard for your typical slice-of-life anime - the summer matsuri and school cultural festival - although something I've been thinking this time through is that Nao kinda works as a good trans metaphor - identifying as masculine in her youth only to realize she identifies more strongly as a woman but still partially stuck in her cultural mindset. IDK, just an interesting thought.
