Walked the recently reopened Zion Hill loop out at #Karekare this weekend (~3hrs). It's an uphill start for ~40mins to the top of the ridge, then fairly easy going after that. A couple of very small, shallow water crossings (easy to jump or rock hop), but may become larger after/during rain. Beautiful views, both from up on the ridge as well as down by the wetland/ beach.
There's been a lot of work done on the track and it's now well formed, gravel or boardwalk. A good workout on the loose sand walking back to carpark at Karekare.

Yesterday was a mini #trampstodon to the Upper Nihotupu Reservoir (dam). It was drizzly rain and the waterfalls along the way put on an impressive show.
A fairly short track leads you to an access road that you walk down to the dam. It's a gradual incline so you don't really notice you're walking downhill, till you come to walk back up it. Sadly access along the old tram track to the dam face has been closed, we suspect due to safety concerns re: small slips from the banks above.

Last weekend I walked the loop track from Arataki visitor centre. It was a beautiful day with amazing views from the top viewing platform - unfortunately it's always difficult to capture that in photos.

Went for a #hike up Mt Donald McLean and along Puriri track last Sunday. Absolutely beautiful views from the top of Mt Donald out over the mouth of the Manukau harbour and Whatipu Beach.

Beautiful weather for a walk this morning. Started at the Arataki visitor centre where I took this photo and did the Slip, Pipeline and Beveridge track loop.

Mōrena ☀️

Yesterday my friend and I enjoyed a loop walk near the Arataki Visitor Centre. The weather was perfect with beautiful views out over the Nihotupu reservoir to the harbour. If you're keen to do this, give yourself 2 hours, more if you like to stop often. There are a few stairs but mostly the track follows the contour of the hills, with a couple of somewhat steep inclines.

If you're in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland next weekend and love art/supporting artists, you might want to check out the Open Studios Waitākere event. Over 40 studios of artists who reside across the Waitākere ranges are opening for people to meet the artists, see art in action and some are offering new works to purchase.

I have a whole series of sunrise photographs taken on an old cheap Olympus digital camera.
These were taken some years ago in Waitakere, Auckland New Zealand. #sunrise #waitakere #auckland #newzealand

Been a while... finally got out on the bike and managed to get the whole ride in between rain showers.
First time on the Scenic Drive in ages, little to no traffic due to 'residents only' or 'complete' (road vehicle) closures in different sections. Lots of slip damage :(

My favourite crass loud mouthed guy from Chicago who also happens to know about every plant species on earth finally made it to New Zealand. And he’s just loving the Waitakere Ranges here. God it makes me homesick these forests are the scenes of so many good times of my youth. #waitakere #CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt #botany https://youtu.be/lAVUGGf905k
