It's not hard by accident, it's "hard" by design. Almost nobody voting for these goverments knows THEY are in charge in the EU, hence @m1rk0 asking vdL about it instead of Merz. #WTFIsTheCouncil is convenient.

@Schouten_B @EUCommission It's not the Commission that refuses to do all that is legally possible, look at who does the performative screaming about Orban in the media. It's his enablers from the member states governments.

That's where @m1rk0 is wrong, "the EU" doesn't exist as an external entity independent of his own government. Radek Sikorski knows too well that even calling the #WTFistheCouncil first QMV vote would send shockwaves through Hungarian elections, so he performs kabuki outrage.

@Schouten_B @m1rk0 @EUCommission There are 2 votes needed for the Art. 7 procedure, one in each Council. Only the final, veto-freezing vote in the Executive (EUCO) requires unanimity. The vote to unblock the procedure which the EC opened in 2018 is QMV in the Legislative Council where EU member states (NOT vdL, not the Commission, but YOUR own national government) refuse to move against Orban's veto to protect their own. All under the cloak of ignorance of most EUropeans about #WTFistheCouncil

@fenixmaster @fantafanta I love how in the mind of so many EUropeans essentially breaking diplomatic relations with your military hegemon upon which you* are dependant on for everything from satellite intel (*not France) and protection from incoming nuclear missiles (*not France) to fossil fuels (could also be not France, but that's not how the Single Market works) and basic IT infrastructure is something the European *Commission* can just DO. Because #WTFistheCouncil

@EugeneMcParland Such a pity that smol bean EU member states governments can do no more than make GRRR noises. 🥺If only they had some sort of power in EU institutions and could get together and vote on a veto freezing procedure they've been blocking since 2018. They could call it... The Council of the EU or something equally fake and deliberately misleading. Imagine if they opened the 🇪🇺 Treaties at Art.7 and discovered this #WTFistheCouncil doesn't even need unanimity to unblock the Art. 7 vote.
