Since it'll take some time for the PCBs to arrive, I decided to make a #prototype on #perfboard. It works fine, and I can test my programs using it. Turns out an #ATtiny814 is good enough for the task.
The #WS2812B #SMD #LEDs are very bright, though, and reducing brightness also reduces the possible color range.
The different color shadings are not very distinguishable, yet. I might have to adjust the color palette.

I've been toying with those neat #WS2812B addressable LED strips. Very cool.

The Open Source #WLED controller does a decent job of handling them from an ESP32.

However, I have completely failed to get it to listen to (wired) DMX. That's one of my use cases and the reason I started playing. Problem is, it's a new feature in the Nightlies so a bit bleeding edge.

So I'm pondering creating my own controller on an Arduino.

Might be fun designing an effects engine for the hell of it.

In today's stupid #projects, I wondered if I could make a 7-segment looking display out of smart #WS2812B LEDs. The idea was to cut it in pieces, then repeat the 7-segment pattern so the individual LEDs would be in predictable spots. The ultimate goal is to make a huge one for the arcade some day, but this prototype is just 2 numbers and a minus sign for a thermometer.

I glued the chopped up LED strip onto a piece of acrylic board, soldered them together and then put some smoked polycarbonate on it to for the looks. This one has only 2 LEDs per segment, but it's easily readable from the intended distance. The corners and hanging hardware are 3D printed and made with #freecad.

As the WS2812Bs are RGB, I made the software change the readout color depending on how chilly or hot it is. It pulls the temperature over MQTT from my home server, that already gets the temperatures from other devices. I used #esp32 as it was super cheap and had WiFi onboard so I only needed 5 volts for it and the LEDs.

Die schwarze Box enthält den #ESP01 und die Elektronik. Sie wird mit USB-C mit Strom versorgt und hat einen eigenen USB-Port mit dem dann der Ring via Micro-USB angeschlossen werden kann, damit die Kabellänge etwas flexibler ist

Jaaaa, das ist zweckentfremdet und Quick and Dirty, aber es ist meins, nicht für den Markt und ich finde das für den Moment toll so 🤗

Avete presente quelle tv nei supermercati che dietro hanno i led che illuminano la parete in base all'immagine? Ecco, ho trovato il modo per ricreare lo stesso effetto.
Il tutto funziona con un #ESP32 con sopra installato #WLED e una striscia #led #WS2812b e un semplice programma multipiattaforma chiamato Hyperion che si occupa di catturare l'immagine a schermo e trasferirla a WLED. Trovate le guide per entrambi ovunque nel web
