Brian RogersAs I mentioned earlier one of the “young” players in yesterday’s Star Wars game is a novice DM. As a thought experiment I _extensively_ footnoted the game write up with every why and how I could think of for my GM thought process and decision making. It was interesting interrogating myself like that after the fact, and then I shared it with her as a learning tool.
There’s this weird spot in 80’s game design that aims for higher levels of real world simulation in skill lists but still breaks out melee attack and melee defense as two separate skills.
Is there some martial art/weapons training that literally teaches you 100% attack and no defense? Surely in 90% of cases if you’re good at melee you can do both?
It always feels like such a point sink that overcharges for and hence overvalues combat.

I'm a fan of #RuneQuest Roleplaying In Glorantha's "fancy" full color 4-page sheet.
My all time favorite though is the template for #WEGStarWars that fit three to a sheet, front and back. It had everything you needed in a very simple format.
16. Game you wish you owned?
I think I've managed to acquire most of my "grail" games in one form or another over the years.
There are some gaps in my #Traveller, and #WEGStarWars collections that I wouldn't mind having filled, but nothing that I'm actively seeking out.

13. Most memorable character demise?
I'm usually the GM, so don't have many PC stories. When I was gaming in college I didn't have a single memorable character death, but I was always the player whose character died. I ended up having multiple similar dwarf characters named "Blarg" as a result. We played a lot of AD&D 2nd back then.

D6 Star Wars. An elegant system from a more civilized age. I barely have been able to use the amazing wealth of material that I have for it.
