SmoothToday is September 27, and I would be remiss if I didn’t honor “the station that dared to be different.”, WLIR 92.7. The legendary Long Island radio station introduced dozens of New Wave music artists who made their debuts being played on their airwaves. And who could forget the incredible announcers that introduced many of the tracks. The station has long since disappeared, but it still lives online and on SiriusXM on 1st Wave Channel 33.
