Women at War: WW2. Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF)
Monica Jean Ladner was born on 7th April 1923, Penzance, Cornwall. She was the daughter of Arthur Tregoning Ladner and Mabel Wills.
She joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) Rank Aircraft Woman 1st Class. Service No. 2068080. Unit 7 Air Gunners School. Military Base Stormy Down, Glamorganshire.
Monica died in RAF Hospital St. Athan of meningitis having been taken seriously ill at RAF Stormy Down on 23 June and she was laid to rest at Penzance Cemetery aged 19. She was entitled to be awarded the British WW2 medals and is commemorated on the Madron War Memorial.

Hilda Mugglestone was born in 1918, Leighton, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Joseph Mugglestone and Margaret Emma Hewitt formerly of Allenby Crescent Rossington, Doncaster. In 1921 aged 2 she lived with her family at 10 Thomas Square, Stainforth, Yorkshire.
Hilda joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). Rank Aircraftwoman 2nd Class. Service No. 461931. Unit: 17 (P) Advanced Flying Unit. Command: Flying Training Command. She died on 9th November 1943, aged 25. She is buried at St. Michael’s Churchyard, Rossington, Doncaster, Yorkshire.
Prior to Hilda joining the WAAF she was a Sunday School Teacher at Mytholmroyd. #WW2 #WAAF

Lily Thorpe was born in 1901.
Lily joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), Rank Colonel, Service No. 523518, Military Base: Sutton Coldfield, Warwicks Unit: 215 Maintenance Unit Command.
On the 8th August 1943 Corporal Lily Thorpe died aged 42 while in service for her country. Her remains are buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. Also, Private Walter Holbrey is buried in the same grave. #WW2 #WAAF

Marjorie Sylvia Titley daughter of John Titly and Annie Vallance, she was born in 1925, Rotherham, Yorkshire.
She joined the WAAF, Rank: Leading Aircraftwoman, Service No. 2136002, Unit: 958 Balloon Squadron, Military Base Swansea, Glamorganshire. She died on 12th December 1943 aged 18 while on active service. She was buried at Bramley Burial Ground. #WW2 #yorkshire #WAAF

Mary Brown Wyness was born in 1912, Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Robert Harry and Annie Merchant Wyness
Mary joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). Rank Aircraftwoman 2nd Class. Service No. 2046417. Military Unit: RAF and Dominion Air Force. She was killed in an accident the day after she returned to her unit on 4th July 1942 aged 30. #WW2 #WAAF
2. Crashed Attempting to Land At Rennes in Bad Visibility At Night and Short of Fuel During A Transit Flight to the United Kingdom. Both were was aged 30.
The remains of Hilda and her husband were recovered and buried at Rennes Eastern Cemetery. #WW2 #WAAF

Hilda Victoria Timms (nee Johnson) was born in 1914, Ilford, Essex. She was the daughter of Arthur Edgar Johnson and Gertrude Margaret Hayward.

Hilda joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). Rank Sergeant. Service No. 834422. Military Base, Heliopolis, Egypt Command North Africa. On 7th October 1945 she and her husband Sergeant John Edward Timms were killed whilst flying. #WW2 #WAAF

Irene Comley was born in 1920, Pontypridd, Wales. She joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. Rank Leading Aircraftwoman. Squadron No. 421574. HQ Unit No.6 Group. Military Base Abingdon, Berkshire. Bomber Command.
Irene died on 23rd March 1942 while on active service, Hendon, London aged 22. Her remains are buried at Pant Cemetery Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. #WW2 #WAAF
