Politics live: Dutton walks back promise of Indigenous recognition, saying Australians ‘probably over’ referendum process for now

Well, whatever happens tomorrow, I know I did all that I could to move towards true Indigenous inclusion & recognition.
I will be able to tell future generations that I stood for what was right and fair and voted for equity.
If I am one day blessed with children, I will be able to tell them that their Mum fought to have our Indigenous people recognised in our constitution and give them a voice in this country, THEIR country!
I will will forever be able to look back on my choice with pride and know that I stood on the right side of history.

Now...on to treaty!

Hello Australia!
Not such a big ask - please #VoteYES23Australia

A man just came to the door. He said he had pre-polled No but has now done the research and realised he had been "sucked in by Dutton and the No crowds' bloody lies" and wished he could reverse his vote. He's knocking on all the doors in the area to tell people that they should vote yes. He said, "I can't believe I fell for it."

I asked him where he gets his news from and he said he watches Sky News. Enough said! I suggested that this probably isn't the best source of factual information and he might like to switch off Sky given its record of distorting facts and look more widely for his news information.

He seemed really distressed that he had cast his vote on the wrong side. It was only when he was leaving that he noticed my Yes sign in my front window. "Should have listened to the Yes people all along. It's only an advice committee."

I wished him a safe day. He seems to be suffering from a case of buyer's remorse.

Australians really need to understand there’s a moral choice here. There’s one choice that’s morally correct, and the other one will bring shame upon us, and we will have to wear that shame and dishonour for a long time to come.”

‘I don’t know what it’s about’: not enough done to explain the voice referendum, people in western Sydney say

Many still don’t understand what the Indigenous voice to parliament is and others are unaware the vote is being held in just over a week

@web_goddess I have been hoping for a similar outcome for the Australian #Voice referendum as for the gay marriage plebiscite (that was predicted to fail but was then resoundingly supported; and joyously so) .

However, the increasing meaness, apathy and stone-heartedness that Australians of settler heritage have shown towards #Australias1StNationPeople demonstrate that Australia is a deeply divided and by+large racist country.

Either that or the #Indigenouspeople who make up 3% of this nation are so invisible, so misrepresented historically and so misunderstood, that the other 97% just DO NOT CARE what happens to them bc they're not even on their radar..

Either way it's heartbreakingly sad.
How the hell are #aboriginal communities supposed to feel if #Notovoice succeeds and they know that over half of #Australia has just written them off as unworthy of a #voice

How are they supposed to be "well" with that ?

@drrimmer I desperately hope so.
The Australian gay marriage plebiscite was touted as a loser beforehand, then was overwhelmingly in favour. Joy !!! All bc a huge majority of Aussies KNEW it was the right and just thing to do.

I have been hoping for a similar scenario for #Voice . However, the increasing meaness, apathy and stone-heartedness that Australians with settler heritage have shown towards #Australias1StNationPeople demonstrate that Australia is a deeply divided and by+large racist country.
