Criticism of President Joe Biden by a far-right minister in Israel’s government has sparked outrage at a sensitive time for Israel's relations with Washington. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister, criticized the Biden administration for urging Israel to better protect Palestinian civilians and to facilitate more aid to Gaza. He told The Wall Street Journal that Biden was hindering Israel’s war effort and that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump would give Israel greater latitude in fighting Hamas. Benny Gantz, a retired general and member of Netanyahu’s three-man War Cabinet, said Ben-Gvir was “causing tremendous damage” to American-Israeli relations. Netanyahu, without mentioning Ben-Gvir by name, thanked Biden for his support at a Cabinet meeting.
AIPAC has given more than $600,000 in total to Latimer’s campaign — 42 percent of his total $1.4 million in contributions so far — according to filings with the Federal Election Commission submitted Wednesday night.
“This report makes it clear that George Latimer’s campaign to unseat Jamaal Bowman is heavily funded by the same Republican megadonors who’ve spent millions to elect Donald Trump,” Bill Neidhardt, an adviser to Bowman’s campaign, said in a statement to The Intercept. “There is a direct connection between Latimer and the upper echelons of the Republican party.”

(As of this writing, the death toll has risen to over 26,000.) In a tweet a day prior to Bell’s announcement, Bush had decried Israel’s military operations as an “ethnic cleansing campaign.”
Bell insisted there was “nothing personal” about his decision, but he called Bush’s statements “offensive” and contrasted himself with her—on the war and more generally—by pledging to “stand with the president.”
