Working on an #IBM5150 for #DOScember. Following troubleshooting guide on MinusZeroDegrees.net. PSU seems good (stays on when plugged into board), but no beep code from speaker.
Does the T1 Trimmer look ok? It could be broken as mine doesn’t look like the one in photos online.
No obvious damage, no exploding caps, and voltages look good coming off PSU at P8 & P9 connectors.

Is your 40+ years old #vintagecomputer suffering from ribbon cable bird's nest syndrome? Don't delay! Print my ribbon cable chassis connector housing thing today! 🙂 Also, be gentle - I'm new to #3d :-)
While restoring an old CP/M system, I found that one of the most fragile parts were the IDC-to-DB25 and IDC-to-Centronics ribbon cables that went from the various expansion cards to the chassis. Not the simple 1:1 crimped cables, but the ones with Centronics or DB-25 connectors soldered by hand, for instance for RS-232 or parrallel printer ports. These are often a bit of a birds nest, with a couple of wires taking most of the load if the cable is accidentally pulled.These inside-the-chassis connector housings should fix the issue.For the best fit, print a connector with the proper number of ribbon cable wires.Screw holes are all the way through, as it has proven difficult to get supports out otherwise.Parts needed:DB connectors:2 x 3x10M screws2 x 3M nutsCentronics connectors:2 x 2.5M screws2 x 2.5M nutsSource is available on Github here: https://github.com/hcsaustrup/3d-openscad/tree/main/RibbonCableChassisHousings
It's been a while since I updated you on my #vintagerepair project. Last time, I was knee deep in a Commodore PC50 III 386SX16, but things have gone a little out of hand since.
Shortly after I tasted the sweet, sweet flavor of success, I ordered a lot of 3 possibly dead #IBM #Aptiva system. Naturally they were exactly that - dead. One was missing a power supply and another had the wrong one. After a lot of work, I managed to get the beefiest system running - a #Pentium 133. The work is ongoing, and has so far involved ordering weird cable adapters from Germany, washing motherboards in the dishwasher and sourcing an original power supply from the US. Pro tip - if you're ever considering collecting desktop Aptivas, don't. They're incredibly difficult to get parts for, and - so far - pretty tricky to bring back from the dead.

The #Enterprise repair adventure continue. 10 ICs were replaced with sockets, ICs tested and resocketed. One was faulty. Shows graphics when booted but very unstable. Also, had a bit of a discussion about the two 74LS147 that are somehow responsible for memory addressing. On one of my other Enterprises, they used 74LS148 which are inverted (or the other way around). My thoughts were that if memory is only addressed through them, it doesn't matter is the address(?) are inverted - sure it will use another physical part of the memory chips, but the logical address space should be exactly the same, no? Just thoughts from a guy who knows very little about #TTL logic.
Holy shit! My #TL866II Plus can test ICs. I just found a broken 74153 on one of my #Enterprise computers. Looks like there is still hope for a successful repair.
RFT SDK2930… Es geht dem Ende zu! Heute gab es den Abgleich, speziell der Tonköpfe, dazu Pegelanzeige und Aufnahmefunktion eingestellt. Nebenbei noch kalte Lötstellen repariert. Jetzt fehlt noch der Dauertest und die optische Aufwertung, dann kann das Schätzchen zu seinem glücklichen Besitzer zurück. 😎🤙🏻
