I bought a decent looking #Sharp #EL520 but when I put batteries in it, the display showed random segments and the audio output was a mess. About 45 years old, there could be a lot of reasons for this fault but as it turned out gold surface wasn't thick enough for the (pointy) contact. A bit of solder after cleaning the PCB did the job.

Today I found out that 1 divided by 9 and after multiplied by 9 (1/9*9) is a calculation that most pocket calculators can't give the correct answere to, it should be equal to 1 but on my pocket calculator is equal to 0.9999999. I suspect it's because they don't have enough digits precission to give me the correct answere and that's just me guessing why it is. Even if IDK the answere to why it's happening it's still interesting.

More from my vintage Casio Personal M-1 Calculator reconditioning after a bunch of cleaning partly because of the alkaline battery leakage that leaked very badly, that luckily won't get all the way into the PCB, but there were some crystallized acid pieces inside the case all the way underneath the VFD (vacuum fluorescent) display I managed to get rid of the mess that the leakage caused.

The Casio Personal M-1 calculator had some damaged traces on it's PCB that needed to be replaced with some wires, but before that I have scraped with an exacto knife the damaged parts of the traces and prepared a small amount to be able to solder on the wires into. It was definitely repaired before by someone, there was one trace that was replaced with some kynar wire.

Finally I have found my vintage calculator that I have searched for years around the house that needed badly to be cleaned and repaired. I have found it in the attic the poor thing have been in ruff shape after it was exposed to extreme heat and cold up there. To make thing worst I forgot to take the two AA alkaline batteries off that I have put into them years before to test it out to see if it turns on and it did.

Found a blown fuse inside the Rapidman 1212 calculator that had travelled across the Atlantic.

My new step-down voltage converter worked. The calculator didn't.

Or so I thought...

While I was doing diagnostics with my meter, I hadn't noticed that two of the digits had lit up!
