The joys of living in a small rural village.
It's school holidays and there was a fuss the other day when a couple of youths were spotted in someone's enclosed back yard. The next day they were sprung in the back of my elderly neighbour's place, chucking things at windows and trying to break them.
Police were advised. Even better, the rural telegraph went to work and within a couple of days we all knew who the kids were and where they live. Someone had a quiet word with both sets of parents.
This morning, accompanied by his father, the ten year old turned up at my neighbour's door in tears and apologised to her. He's lost all privileges and had the fear of God put into him which should benefit his teenage years.
A bit later the 12 year old bounced up on his own with a half-hearted and insincere apology. We'll need to keep an eye on young Oly.
They say it takes a village to raise a child.
I'm glad I live in a village.
