Kdenlive keeps crashing

I’m trying out Linux video editing in Ubuntu. My first try has been Kdenlive. If I try to add a PNG file, it crashes out. No error message, just goodbye.

Verdict

sudo apt remove kdenlive
sudo apt autoremove

@zahntron From all #Linux video editors that I assessed, the best seems to be #DavinciResolve (proprietary) and #KDEnlive, and with a somewhat different focus #Blender.
Contender #Shotcut.
Also available #OpenShot #Lightworks (proprietary) #Flowblade #Olive #Avidemux #Pitivi

PLEASE UPDATE: My assessment is from September 2024, if one of the video editors has progressed substantially, please respond!

I don't get why DaVinci Resolve sometimes have audio sync problem with it's Audio Playback on Linux...The video itself is fine, the rendered video is fine, just the playback in DaVinci is having sync issue

TechCrunch: Video editing app Captions switches to a freemium model to boost growth. “The free tier will include basic video editing tools with features like adding subtitles and a teleprompter for recording, voiceovers, and more. The company is putting all its AI features, such as AI avatars, editing, and social studio suite, in its paid tier.”

DaVinci Resolve is just, so good compared to anything else I tried before:
- Sony Vegas Pro
- Adobe Premiere/After Effects
- Kdenlive

Kdenlive is Adding One of Final Cut Pro’s Best Features

Removing backgrounds from video in Kdenlive, the free, open-source video editor for Linux, macOS and Windows, is about to get a whole lot easier. This “modern background removal tool” uses object masks to automatically cut out the subject of a video clip — no green screen required! Real-time background removal features are increasingly common in video conferencing/chat apps like Slack. They allow a user to replace their actual backdrop (like a messy kitchen) with an alternative image or, sometimes, even a video clip. Video editors often have similar needs: they want to ‘cut out’ an object, item, person, or whatever
