Audacity records audio. You connect your mic and it makes a record of the audio that you can combine with different tracks. Increase and decrease volume. Fix pops and mistakes. Equalize. Compress. And there are some filters. I use it for everything, but mostly editing voice recordings of a single voice.
It is straightforward and easy to use, and can work directly with WAV files or make MP3s, etc.
When #vidding, I often edit the audio track in audacity for length before using.

I found communities that will take off air TV #videocassette recordings with commercials. They also love newscasts, PBS pledge drives, you name it as long as it was recorded off air.

This vid is HI-LA-RI-OUS. Such a brilliant choice of song for a film that absolutely doesn't take itself seriously, and the visuals are such a great and hilarious match for the lyrics.
