A number of Glasgow's other surviving Victorian drill halls are similarly architecturally anomolous and it seems to have been a conscious decision to choose a style which made them stand out from the surrounding buildings, rather than to blend in.

The Lanarkshire Royal Engineers Volunteers Drill Hall on Jardine Street in Glasgow. Built in 1894 and designed by Robert Alexander Bryden, its brick construction and Tudor style detailing contrasts sharply with the surrounding sandstone tenements.

Je crois que j’en avais montré des petits morceaux ici, mais pas encore le bâtiment dans sa totalité : revoilà le Lanyon Building, pièce maîtresse de la Queen’s University à Belfast, une impressionnante réalisation de 1849 restaurée il y a quelques années. Il porte le nom de son architecte, Charles Lanyon, à qui l’on doit aussi les jolies serres victoriennes du jardin botanique tout proche. Août 2023.
