It is worth recalling that governments otherwise closely aligned with #germany during #worldwartwo tended to balk at handing over any of their citizens to #germany. This effect was offset to some extent by #vichyfrance denaturalising large numbers of recent immigrants - mainly #jews - who it had no compunction in handing over. Not an encouraging precedent!

The Vichy government in occupied France collaborated with Nazi Germany during WWII.
When the Germans were expelled, Nazi collaborators were pursued, prosecuted, and punished for their crimes against the French nation. This included government officials, individual collaborators, associations, businesses, and anyone that profited from their collaboration.
Charles de Gaulle, head of the Provisional Government of the French Republic, established a legal framework to pursue, purge, and convict collaborators.
This is Trumps future. This is the future for MAGA and GOP collaborators. This is the future for the billionaire donors that supported Trump for their corrupt purposes. This is the future for corporate American businessmen that collaborated with Trump.
History always repeats.

Vichy France, starting in summer 1940, had intellectuals trying to cope with the loss of freedom by declaring that the Third Republic had "gone too far with its liberties." This was both a coping mechanism for the shock of Nazi occupation and a form of psychological control. Fascist America, by contrast, involves believing in a fantasy of illusory "greatness" as our freedoms are taken away. These are more ideal conditions to brainwash the public than Vichy France.
