Gardening continues. I only have 5 raised planter boxes and only got them going earlier this year, with a bit of winter sowing, less summer stuff as I knew we would be away for 6 weeks.

But the first potatoes are just starting to be ready to dig up and I'm soooo happy!

These were the lowest effort planting of all. Old potatoes from the potato farm in #Erica (5 min down the road) had been left in their bag for months and grown... a lot. So they are local & acculturated to the climate, but not seed potatoes. I just chucked them in the ground... I was expecting small potatoes... but two of these are very much standard size!

I think I put seaweed on them twice earlier on, maaaybe.

I spread out planting over maybe a month, so we will get more maturing later, only some are ready now.

There will be LOADS more, I just bandicooted around for 15 seconds and pulled up enough for dinner ๐Ÿ˜

We have made 1 large potato into French fries, and the rest mashed with cream & butter ๐Ÿ˜‹

Harvested some veges this morning. Can't decide if I should have this for breakfast or lunch.

Weather warming up means I've been shucking the last of the snow peas for tomorrow's curry. Such a beautiful colour. #VegeGarden

A little friday afternoon harvest.

Picked the first capsicum from the garden.
Chopped it up, and sauteed some with some mushrooms, tomato, and spring onions, then added it to some baked beans on toast for breakfast.

The aroma when I cut it open was Fucking Amazing... it's so easy to forget how good food is meant to be until you grow your own.

Spring is here, the silverbeet has bolted and is setting seed. This one is about 2m high. It's past the hills hoist (clothesline) and technically shading the solar panels (the mulberry tree does that so much more effectively that it doesn't matter).

I'll get enough seed from this and one good plant in the front garden that I'll be 'jonny appleseeding' the area in a month or two :)

My little verandah vege garden:
Capsicums are coming along nicely, the biggest one's about the size of a tennis ball. meanwhile the salad tomatoes are fruiting as well.
(these were all grown from shop-bought fruit and veg).

My little verandah garden: Cherry tomatoes are fruiting, capsicums are fruiting, salad tomatoes are flowering. Basil, chives, and spring onions are doing their thing, and even the aloe vera is starting to flower.

My Brazilian spinach has been doing especially gangbusters, even the one at the back balcony which had always kinda done poorly. I give all credit to...
Prawn poo.
Yea, really! Prob the best fertilizer you can get!
So when you deshell and devein the prawns don't throw them away. Wash the shelled prawns and shells (including the heads) in water. Pour the water onto your vege bed.
For the shells, in Malaysia, we often boil them and use it as stock.
Then, you can bury the shells. Great compost.
