i am now hohsting #vaultwarden on prem on my #tailscale #tailnet server. i was able to host using a docker container on #windows , running on port 8080. pretty cool shit, if you ask me! the only issue i have with it right now is that i cannot get it to read my passkey for 2step login, not sure what that is about.

#1Password 's password sharing (the sharing link) feature is pretty sweet. Once #Bitwarden/#Vaultwarden catches up on the credentials sharing related features 1Password has, that'd be golden. Cos besides some of these nice features, 1Password's still very unpleasant to use lol - idek how to explain why.

I had always been quite happy using Bitwarden as my password manager. It was free and it felt good using it. But since the quiet renovation starting at the beginning of 2026 I have my doubts whether I want to keep using Bitwarden.

Think I will switch to Vaultwarden, running on my home server in a FreeBSD jail, connecting to it via Wireguard. Easiest way would be to use Tailscale, but this just feels like just trading one dependency for another...

So, #Vaultwarden auf Cloudinstanz installiert samt Fail2Ban. Sicherheitshalber auch gleich auf einer 2. Instanz als Kopie.
Ist noch nicht so ganz die digitale Unabhängigkeit, läuft nämlich auf Free Tier-Instanzen von #Oracle 🫣 😁

habis gw uninstall terus hapus cache dan bisa install kembali. Problemnya adalah ane ga bisa lagi login ke server #bitwarden gw yang pakai #vaultwarden itu.

padahal kalo login dari web lancar - lancar saja.

Interesting.. I wonder how someone in the Netherlands found my Vaultwarden URL, which only exists because I have my domain wildcarded in Pangolin (i.e. it's not published anywhere like crt.sh). It's geoblocked, nonetheless.

Maybe self-hosted Vaultwarden still phones home to Bitwarden?

(EDIT: It was me, using a VPN with sketchy geolocation data.)

Für diejenigen, die #Vaultwarden selbst hosten und deren Oberfläche frei im Netz ist: Nutzt ihr einen "Zusatzschutz" wie fail2ban oder verlasst ihr euch auf ein gutes Masterpasswort (ggf. samt 2FA)?
