"Mr. Sandman" (or "Mister Sandman") is a #popularSong written by #PatBallard and published in 1954. It was first recorded in May of that year by #VaughnMonroe and his #orchestra and later that year by #TheChordettes and #theFourAces. The song's lyrics convey a request to "#MrSandman" to "bring me a dream" – the traditional association of the #folkloric figure (but in this context the meaning of dream is more akin to '#dreamboat').

RAMRODS
"(GHOST) RIDERS IN THE SKY"

Ramrods - (Ghost) Riders In The Sky
from The Backbeat Of Rock And Roll by Famous Flames

https://famousflames.bandcamp.com/track/ghost-riders-in-the-sky

The earliest hits of "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" were by Vaughn Monroe and Burl Ives; but this version by the Ramrods may be the earliest hit version remembered by people who are still living. I am an old guy and I was age 1 when the Burl Ives record hit in 1949. Most people today seem to associate this song with Johnny Cash but his record did not chart until 1979. So, for most of us, the Ramrods are the Riders in the Sky granddaddies. Their single charted on February 20, 1961. Strange to say, this classic only reached No. 30 and it fell off the Billboard pop Top 40 after a single week. Nonetheless it seems to have cast a very long shadow. The song was a country hit for Roy Clark in 1973.
