Genoa bags the Bentegodi, 2-0 against Verona.

Genoa banks Bentegodi and, with the goals in the second half from Vitinha and Ostigard, makes a beautiful leap towards salvation, troubling the Scaligeri, who are penultimate in the standings with 18 points with just 9 days remaining in the championship.

A great start to the match by the hosts, who, after only 3’, hit a spectacular post on a cross-shot from Akpa Akpro. The response of the rossoblu (red-blues) doesn’t wait, as at 8’ Ekuban tries to exploit Vasquez’s assist by shooting with his left foot, but Montipò easily blocks the ball. After a lively start, the two teams slightly lower the pace of the game, also due to several mistakes made by both sides.

At 34’, Bowie suddenly lights up by turning and shooting towards the goal: Ostigard opposes and neutralizes the threat. Verona tries to show themselves in the offensive area even at the end of the first half, with a shot from Akpa Akpro that ends up at the bottom of the net. The two teams therefore go to rest with the score of 0-0 after 2 minutes of added time.

At the start of the second half, Genoa sets up a beautiful action, which however ends with a too weak shot from Sabelli. Coach De Rossi decides to change things up by inserting fresh players and the newly-entered Vitinha immediately pays back his coach’s trust: at 61’ the attacker lets off a missile from 30 meters that beats Montipò, fooled despite a fairly central shot.

The Hellas (Verona) therefore tries to react to restore the score equilibrium, but their offensive maneuvers are poorly organized and decisive. The substitutes such as Belghali and Frese are unable to give the Scaligeri a jolt, and instead lose several balls favoring the opponents’ counterattacks.

At 86’, Leo Ostigard, one of the best on the field, takes advantage of a cross from Martin on a free kick to score the definitive 2-0 and seal the second consecutive victory for the rossoblu, the first away after three months. Thanks to this result, Genoa jumps to 33 points in the standings, while Hellas Verona remains penultimate with 18 points. The Ligurian team will host Udinese at the Ferraris on Friday; for the Venetians, instead, next Sunday there will be the trip to the New Balance Arena against Atalanta.

In a much-criticized opinion in September, justice #Brett #Kavenaugh supported the Trump administration’s campaign of
💥randomly stopping Hispanics on the street in an effort to root out undocumented immigrants.

At the time he wrote,
“Immigration stops based on reasonable suspicion of illegal presence have been an important component of U.S. immigration enforcement for decades,”
👉 before allowing that
“apparent ethnicity” could be a “relevant factor” for demand of proof of citizenship.

He also suggested that any questioning is “typically brief”
and U.S. citizens and legal residents would
“promptly go free.”

That opinion gave rise to what is now called a ⚠️“Kavanaugh stop”
— coined by Drexel Kline School of Law Professor Anil Kalhan.

According to the two Slate analysts,
Kavanaugh now opining in a recent footnote,
“that race and ethnicity could not be ‘considerations’ when officers make
‘immigration stops or arrests,’”
is a stab at cleaning his already troubled legacy.

⭐️“I think he is begging us to please cease and desist calling them ‘Kavanaugh stops.’

This footnote is buried in the opinion and doesn’t really have anything to do with it.

He just says:
By the way, this conflict is about immigration stops,” Stern offered.

“Wow! Immigration stops can’t be based on race?
What a concept!”
Lithwick sarcastically added.

💥“A concept that you, Brett Kavanaugh, rejected just a few months ago, in September, in the #Vasquez #Perdomo case.

Back then, you wrote that immigration stops could be at least partly based on race or ethnicity,
and that a person’s appearance as Latino could be one reason for them to be stopped by immigration officers.”

“I think he is trying to rid 'Kavanaugh stops' from the discourse,
which is never going to happen.

And maybe he’s trying to send a message to the Trump administration to cool it down,”
Stern suggested
-- before pointing out that CBP Chief #Greg #Bovino pounced on the September opinion to ramp up grabbing anyone with brown skin off the streets with Kavanaugh’s legal blessing.

Stern then added, “Every intelligent observer understood what was going to happen when his opinion dropped in September.

Now he seems to regret it
—though he still hasn’t apologized directly
or acknowledged that he was wrong,
and is pretending that what he said earlier is consonant with what he’s saying now.

Too little, too late.”
