Excellent news. They should have started 25 years ago, of course, but better late than never.
Most children make an uneventful recovery from chickenpox, but some don't, and if you're really unlucky it can be fatal. This will surely save lives.
And even if you avoid serious complications, chickenpox is never fun. The vaccines will avoid a lot of unnecessary suffering and time off work.
Good news, this is UK wide though I'm sharing Scotland specific info.
We are finally vaccinating against chickenpox through varicella; Public Health Scotland. It currently aimed at 12-18 month old kids via MMR (now MMRV) vaccine. With a selective catch-up program for up-to 6 year olds who have no history chickenpox.

Following a detailed review by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the UK’s independent expert group on vaccines, Public Health Scotland (PHS) has been working with the Scottish Government and colleagues across NHS Boards to make some changes to Scotland’s childhood vaccination programme.
This is excellent news.
OK, we should have been vaccinating kids against chickenpox for at least the last 25 years, but better late than never.
This will prevent a great deal of misery, and even save a few lives. Most kids recover uneventfully from chickenpox (though it's still not fun), but some have serious complications, and in rare cases, they can be fatal. We typically see about 20 deaths per year in the UK.
Newton, MA, caught with its pants down, starts enforcing its school vaccination requirements. I can't understand why they were "relaxed" in the first place! But better late than never.
Newton Public Schools have a lot of unvaccinated students, and the district is cracking down and reinstating requirements that were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The district’s central office recently sent out a message letting NPS families know that, during a meeting with the city’s Health and Human Services team, school administration learned that since 2020, 182 students were allowed to enroll in NPS without standard immunizations required by the state to attend public schools in Massachusetts.
“These matters came to our attention due to a series of cases of chicken pox, which were dealt with last week and brought us to review of our students and their immunization status,” the NPS message notes.
This is at a time when measles cases are popping up nationwide, and the NPS data shows 42 students who aren’t immunized for measles.

Are those who had varicella-zoster as children more likely to develop coronary artery disease later in life? I have a Chicken Pox scar. Perhaps there also is unknown damage as a consequence.
