Of the new fires, at least 33 are burning out of control. None are considered "wildfires of note" — fires that are either highly visible or threatening to public safety.

Two new ‘suspicious’ fires burning on outskirts of Port Alberni

So far this season, crews have responded to 46 wildfires on Vancouver Island, when last year at this time, there had been two according to the BC Wildfire Service.
