Finally went on and migrated all the Virtual Machines, including a #Windows VM, from #VMware to libvirt's #OpenSource Virt-Manager.
During the migration, I ran into some issues:
- Virtual Disk VMDK conversion to QCOW2
- Windows VM (using UEFI) not booting
- Text Copy+Paste from and into the VM not working
All these issues are now gone and I documented the migration in the latest #tutorial on Geeker's Digest.

Wir haben letztes Jahr von #VMware nach #Microsoft #Hyper-V gewechselt. 😭
Schuld daran war aber nicht der fehlende Wille oder Sorge, dass #Proxmox nicht die nötigen Funktionen oder Stabilität hat, sondern fehlende Zeit für uns ITler bzgl. Einarbeitung in Proxmox, Nichtverfügbarkeit von Schulungen und der fehlenden Unterstützung unseres IT-Systemhauses ("wir haben niemand, der sich damit auskennt").
Mittlerweile läuft bei mir zu Hause im #homelab seit Monaten erfolgreich ein Proxmox-Cluster sehr performant auf leistungsschwacher, günstiger Hardware und ich bin sicher: Spätestens wenn unsere Hyper-V-Umgebung EOL hat, wird sie umgestellt auf Proxmox.
Und wenn unser Systemhaus bis dahin immer noch keine Kompetenz bzgl. Proxmox, CEPH & Co. aufgebaut hat, werden wir zu einem anderen gewechselt sein.
