I must remember that different isn't necessarily better.
In my current case I realized I can eliminate a switch to better use the managed switch doing my incoming #VLAN tagging. The liberated switch then solves my other issue.
Yet, I might want to get a managed switch in there instead for a bit more VLAN tagging action.
There's always another configuration to consider.

Edit: it's solved, most probably it was a combination of 2×PEBKAC, unclear terminology of an old switch, and wrong assumptions what OpenWRT does by default with DHCP on a VLAN interface.

I wrote an elaborate post about my #VLAN problems¹ on the #OpenWRT forums.
It took one hour, four posts and two users to be assumed “like a clanker” because of a single sentence.

I have tried for over a week to make it work, which seems so simple, yet I can't make it work.
