At Galatasaray, the first round with Liverpool was decided by a goal from Lemina.

ISTANBUL (TURKEY) (ITALPRESS) – Galatasaray defeats Liverpool in Istanbul once again. The first leg of the Champions League round of 16 finishes in the same way as the September match in the league phase: 1-0 and Victor Osimhen once again a protagonist. Not with a goal like in the previous encounter, but with the assist for the former Juventus player Lemina who decides the match at the 7′ with a diving header on the Nigerian’s rebound after a corner kick taken by Sara. The former Napoli player also nearly scored 2-0 at 12′ with a header on Jakob’s cross and sees a goal disallowed at 64′ for an offside by Yilmaz. Liverpool struggles to get going with the individuals. Sixty minutes long is the match of Mohamed Salah on the day of the record of appearances with the Reds shirt in the Champions League (81, surpassed Jamie Carragher). Few playable balls instead for Hugo Ekitikè who at 66′ doesn’t take advantage of one of the rare gifts of the Turkish defense: Yilmaz misses the back pass, the Reds’ frontman presents himself one-on-one with Cakir but is blocked by the Turkish goalkeeper. The full-back makes a big mistake at 70′ missing the timing of the exit on a free kick that turns into a mix-up: the ball goes into the net, but the equalizer is disallowed by VAR for a touch with the arm of Konate immediately in front of the goal. However, overall, Cakir’s performance is more than positive, who closes the goal at 81′ avoiding Sanchez’s own goal on a cunning cross by Robertson. The only bad news of the evening for the Giallorossi is the yellow card remedied in the final by the suspended Davinson Sanchez, who will miss the return match scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th at Anfield Road. In a week the Liverpool, far from the top in the Premier League, will play for the season.– Photo Ipa Agency –(ITALPRESS).
