It is #UtakiWednesday again! There are only two utakis I can walk to from my company’s office so have photographs of Ugwannukata うぐゎんぬかた, the second utaki of Nodake, enshrining the Eastern God. There are distributions of sacred alcohol to the residents there during the festival on the 15th day of the 8th month (lunar calendar). It’s on a steep hill, I’m sure you can see Nakagusuku Gusuku from there when they cut the grasses (which was not the case when I visited at noon…) #Okinawa #Ryukyu

It's #UtakiWednesday ! (Yes, it exists. Now.) Have a look at Īnumō Utaki イーヌモー御嶽 in Nodake (Ginowan). It enshrines the Northern God of the settlement. The concrete shrine dates of 1982. The people involved in the theatrical plays used to come and sing / pray here before the māruashibi of the "bountiful year festivals". They yelled as loud as they could to see if their voice reached the murayā down the hill. It was called bīshirabi (lit. "voice test"). #Okinawa #Ryukyu
