Hoog In Het Torentje

Train song in Dutch by Simon Oak, written for his children in 2002. It’s about a little boy secretly driving ghost trains from a train station’s tower. Just before he causes a bad train crash, an old train driver saves the trains and discovers the naughty boy. Next they continue to do the fun job together.

Refrein na elk couplet, behalve na het laatste:
Hoog in het torentje van het stationsgebouw
Zit een klein jongetje en niemand weet dat hij daar zit
En in het donker als iedereen slaapt
Dan laat hij de treinen rijden
Tjoeke-tjoeke (4x) Hu-huuuu!

Maar in het huisje bij de spoorwegovergang
Woont de oude machinist
Die er al nachten niet van slapen kan
Omdat-ie geen treinbeweging mist!

Maar op een nacht stond een wissel verkeerd
En een locomotief reed toen rechtdoor
En in de verte kwam een andere aan
Over hetzelfde spoor!

De locomotieven reden recht op elkaar af
Het jongetje zag: dat gaat verkeerd
Als die twee botsen geeft dat zo’n harde klap

Een paar tellen nog maar, oh en dan kwam de klap
Maar wie was daar? De oude machinist!
Hij zette nog net op tijd een handwissel om
